Monsoon Hazards

Rain!! People love it in India because it comes after a hot summer. Kids like to play with rainwater. Farmers like it because they get water for there fields, which is good for yield.

What about Safety in Rainy Season?

During the monsoons you must always think safety first before you do anything in such conditions.

Firstly, slow down, do not rush.

You should enjoy the rain and kids get an opportunity to play in rainwater. But, as a parent, you have to watch out for your kid’s safety because kids only know how to enjoy and play.

Preventive measures that you should take as adults:

1. Do not let kids go to slippery areas and try to keep an eye on them.

2. If the child has finished playing, bath him/her immediately with tap water.

Other monsoon observations:

The pace of life dipped due to heavy rainfall in North India this season.

Roads:

Due to heavy rainfall, stagnant water on roads is one of the prima facie hazards. The standing water hides the pits on roads, due to one which one can fall and face injuries. Because of such heavy rainfall drainage systems also fail to drain such amount of heavy water because the system has some limitations or capacity to drain water.

You should put trash in a big plastic and throw it in a designated trash area. The thrash thrown on roadside by commuters has played a big role to choke a drainage system, which cause over flow of rainwater on roads. So, it is our responsibility to keep our area clean to make the environment healthier and safer.

Now, one of the other problems faced due to heavy rainfall is traffic jams on roads. The stagnant water on road slows down the speed of cars, which leads to traffic jams.

So, while raining, before you leave home, toward work, plan your way from where you have to go through. Drive slowly and look for others too as every one else is also driving in the same condition.

Most of the people have to walk to reach there destiny. As you know that it’s raining and there is all kind of slip, trip and fall hazards.

Keep your eyes on your path, where you are walking, check out for slippery areas, do not try to run which is one of the most common factors to get injured.

At last, these are just suggestions or requests. You are free to think whatever.

Remember:

Think about your safety first and plan before you do any thing. If you are confused or not sure: stop, confirm it first, and then start again. Do not take any chance because it may not hurt you but it can hurt others.

Happy Monsoon folks!!

Health Safety & Environment

Here's a definition of HSE found on Wikipedia.

"Occupational health and safety is a cross-disciplinary area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work or employment. The goal of all occupational health and safety programs is to foster a safe work environment.[1] As a secondary effect, it may also protect co-workers, family members, employers, customers, suppliers, nearby communities, and other members of the public who are impacted by the workplace environment. It may involve interactions among many subject areas, including occupational medicine, occupational (or industrial) hygiene, public health, safety engineering, chemistry, health physics, ergonomics, toxicology, epidemiology, environmental health, industrial relations, public policy, industrial sociology, medical sociology, social law, labour law and occupational health psychology."
